Neck Stretches - SFCC

Cervical or neck stretches are performed by adding over-pressure to all ranges of neck motion to add slight stretch to the musculature. With all of these stretches it is important to maintain good posture throughout as a slumped posture with greatly reduce the effectiveness. We begin with flexion actively drawing our chin back (think double chin) and then dropping it to our chest. To begin the second position we reach our right arm behind our back by dropping and internally rotating the shoulder (think of scratching an itch below your shoulder blade) dropping our left ear towards our left shoulder and reaching up with the left hand to add some extra stretch before repeating on the opposite side. The last part of the neck stretch begins in the same position as the second stretch but we will turn the head so that we look under the armpit to focus on the levator scapulae.
